Wilson Cornelius Bullach

December 26, 1913 — February 17, 2014

Wilson (Brud) Cornelius Bullach, age 100, passed into heaven on February 17, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born to Wilson C. and Grace Sheridan Bullach, he lived his entire life in the Massillon area. Brud, to those who knew him, graduated from Canton's St. John's High School in 1931, where he enjoyed playing center field with Massillon classmate Tommy Henrich. Brud was also on the football team and played violin in the school orchestra. In his youth, his family enjoyed summers at their cottage on Turkeyfoot Lake, and he was a popular dancer when the big bands came to town. He held a love of motorcycles, travel, and pie. He performed his military exercises every morning, and showed off his stationary bike skill on his 100th birthday. Wilson retired as a mechanic from the Otis Elevator Company, a job he loved for over 35 years. He was a company legend who was known to have out-worked men half his age, and was proud to point out the many elevators he installed. After retirement he remained active and rode a Harley until he was 84. Then he rode a horse. He entered the Army at 27 with the Ohio National Guard unit out of Findlay, OH and was the last living original member of the famed 37th Division, 148th infantry, Company C that served on Guadalcanal, New Georgia, and Bougainville. They were a tight group of soldiers who met for 65 consecutive reunions. Wilson earned the Bronze Star for his bravery and leadership in a daring charge which saved many lives. Wilson was preceded in death in 2012 by his wife of 60 years, Ann Paulik, with whom he had 7 children: Thomas Bullach (Bonnie) of Dalton, James Bullach of Massillon, David Bullach of Gillette, WY, Constance Tan (Benjamin) of Canton, Brenda Heiser (Richard) of North Canton, Barbara Lautzenheiser (Bruce) of Massillon, and Patricia Karoue of Texas. Also surviving are Grandchildren: Ben, Katie, Ashley, Heather, and Josiah Bullach; Avery, Blake and Radley Tan; Kylie Bullach; Weslee and Stephanie Heiser; Joseph, Chad, and Erin Lautzenheiser. Preceding him in death also: brother Richard Bullach, Sisters: Thelma Hofacre, Lillian Ehmer, and Grace Wolfe. He is survived by his sisters: Florence Bullach of Navarre, Sister Winefred (Beverly) Bullach of Canton and Joan Haslinger (Lee) of Pontiac, MI. His family thanks Mercy Hospice and all of the women who worked to keep Brud in his home, and we thank the entire staff at Altercare of Noble's Pond for their exceptional care following his illness. Funeral services will be on Saturday February 22, at Paquelet Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 followed by a reception from 2-4. Wilson will be buried with full military honors on Monday, February 24th, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Hospice.
