William "Ted" Welsch, 82, of Massillon, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Ted was born on August 9, 1941 in Dennison, Ohio the son of the late Emmett and Marjorie (Narney) Welsch.
Ted was a lifelong resident of Massillon and a 1959 graduate of Washington High School. He served 2 Tours in the U. S. Army, in South Korea and France. Following his service in the U.S. Army he then joined the Stark County Sheriff's department as a Deputy where he worked for 27 1/2 years retiring as a Sergeant. Ted was a past president of the Massillon Little League, as well as a coach. He was also a proud supporter of Massillon Tiger Football. Ted loved traveling "driving" especially in his 1968 Delmont '88 convertible. He enjoyed going to Historic Civil War Battlefields. He loved anything having to do with Westerns. Ted had a passion for animals. He also had a strong bond with his cousins.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Welsch, and Granny Ruth Gregory.
He is survived by his children, Scott (Lisa Wiley) Welsch and Jennifer Welsch; sisters, Joyce (Earl) McKimm, and Christy (David) Thorley; nieces, Andrea (Mike) McFerren, and Kristen McKimm; numerous cousins; and his extended "adopted" family, Jay, Diane, Kathy (Terry), and Terry "Turkey".
A Celebration of Ted's life will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 7 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Stark County Humane Society.
