William O. Bergener

January 29, 1941 — October 20, 2024

William O. 'Bert' Bergener, 83, of Massillon, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024. William was born in Massillon, Ohio on January 29, 1941 the son of the late William and Dorothy (Harbaugh) Bergener.

He grew up in Massillon, but lived in various Southern states for 20 years before returning to Massillon. He was a 1959 graduate of Washington High School. Following High School graduation he served in the Ohio Army National Guard. He was an active member of First Christian Church and Tuslaw Lions Club. William was a skilled auto body repairman for the past 40 plus years and worked for many shops in the area and in the South. He also loved fishing.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Brothers, Gene (Sonia) Bergener, Doug (Kelley) Bergener, Mike (Jackie) Bergener, and Pam Bergener; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Vicky (Bill) Ferrebee; partner, Barb Baker; former spouse, Marilyn Bergener; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 grandsons; David Wengerd and Tommy Bergener; sister, Penny Papadopolus; and his brother, Ronald Bergener.

According to his wishes cremation will take place. There will be no calling hours or services. He will be interred at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Stark County Humane Society.
