William L. Ferguson

April 4, 1930 — October 30, 2011

Death came for William L. "Bill" Ferguson on October 30th, 2011 at his home where he was surrounded by his entire family. He was born to Fae and Vernon Ferguson in 1930 in Selma, Indiana. His sister Betty predeceased him in 2004. Bill or "Fergie", attended Ball State University where he met his future wife JoAn Suhre from Brookville, Indiana. There were 58 years of a happy marriage to follow. The main joy in this life was his children and their musical and artistic talents. They are Anne Ferguson Wilson and Paul Ferguson of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and Mark Ferguson of Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Adored grandchildren are Rachel and Clara Wilson, John Ferguson, and Kelsey and Tyler Ferguson. A Navy veteran, Bill's working years were spent in the rubber industry. The last 31 years of employment were spent in the sales department at Copolymer Rubber and Chemical Corporation based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His job required several moves to different parts of the country, but his family finally settled in Massillon in 1966. Bill particularly enjoyed golfing and was a member of Shady Hollow Country Club for 44 years. The search for the "perfect golf swing" never left him. Loving to prepare special foods for his family was a hobby as well as competing in card games with special friends. Working in his large yard as well as in his garden gave him pleasure. After retirement Bill spent 11 years as a volunteer for "Meals on Wheels." A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 3rd at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Wales Rd. Massillon, Oh at 11 :00 AM. Friends can call anytime an hour before the service. Bill and JoAn were long-time members of Church of the Savior in Canton, and Pastor Ed Fashbaugh will officiate at the service. Daughter Anne Ferguson Wilson will provide piano music to celebrate the life of her father. A private burial will be made at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana at a later date. Bill and family were grateful for the help of Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third St. Dover, OH 44622. If anyone would care to donate to this agency it will be appreciated.
