William K. Oliver

William K. Oliver, age 82, passed away Thursday, October 18th at Amherst Meadows. He was born on August 8, 1930 in Massillon to the late Chester L. and Marie I. (Ertle) Oliver. He was a graduate of Washington High School class of 1948 and attended Kent State and Columbia Universities. He retired from Republic Steel in Canton after more than 30 years of service. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Jack Oliver. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (McGuire) Oliver, whom he married on November 10, 1956. Also surviving are his nine children, Jacqueline (David) Bowers, Brian (Kathy) Oliver, Jennifer (Michael) Dominick, Mary Elizabeth Oliver, Susan Courter, Gordon Oliver, Charles (Adrienne) Oliver and William P. Oliver, all of Massillon, and Daniel T. Oliver of St. Croix, Virgin Islands. There are twenty grandchildren and two great grandsons. Bill was regarded highly as an historian of Massillon. He was a classic movie buff and could regale acquaintances with many songs that were popular from the 1920's to the present. A memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, November 10th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Fr. Edward Gretchko will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the Mass. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Amherst Meadows for their wonderful care and concern. Bill came to esteem them all and considered them dear friends. Memorials are suggested in Bill's name to either St. Mary's Catholic Church or the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
