William James "Bill" Smith

William James “Bill” Smith, 79, of Richville, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Bill was born on January 30, 1942, in Canton, the son of the late Weldon James and Virginia (Abernathy) Smith. He graduated from Perry High School Class of 1960. Bill retired from the Timken Co. as a supervisor of the Roll Shop after 39 years of service. Bill was an avid golfer. He was also a superior billiard player and was inducted into the Greater Canton Amateur Billiard Association Hall of Fame in 1999. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death in 2019 by his wife of 55 years, Gloria, and his sister Shirley Hartmann in 2016. He is survived by his sons, Gregory (Joan) Smith, and Todd A. (Shelly) Smith; grandchildren, Gabriel Smith, Hunter Montgomery, Shane (Jessica) Simon, and Shanna (William) Royko; great-grandchildren, Juniper Simon and Raylan Simon; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday, June 25, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital @ www.stjude.org. Continuing with COVID-19 precautions, all attending will be asked to follow proper social distancing protocol and those unvaccinated are required to wear masks.
