William J. Friend Sr.

William J. Friend, age 87 went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2015. He was born in Massillon on August 06, 1927 to the late Walter and Lenora (Brunckhart) Friend. He was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School. He married Freda K. Day on July 02, 1950 and they shared 58 years together until her passing on December 06, 2008. William proudly served his country in the U.S Army in the Pacific during World War II. After serving in the military William worked at Republic Steel for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his Massillon Tigers. He is survived by his children Kathleen(Edward) Riese, William J. Friend II, Rod(Debbie)Friend and Daniel (Diane) Friend; his sisters Lois Calhoun, Winnonna (Robert) Weaver and Nancy (Louis) Zavarrelli; his brother Walter N. Friend Jr. and 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, William was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren. A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home .
