William “Bill” Ross Kannel, 71, passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 2021. Bill was born in Massillon to his late parents William and Ruth Kannel, where he happily spent most of his life, attended every Tigers football game he could, and was lucky enough to find love twice. Bill grew up with his first love, Sharon, and they were high school sweethearts; they married in 1969 and spent 49 wonderful years together until her passing in 2018. Bill is now survived by his second love, Jane, whom he fell in love with and married in February 2020. Both women were integral parts of Bill’s life and accompanied him in his time with family, many travels, and daily joys. Bill is also survived by his sister, Susan (Ann) Kannel; his uncle, Frank Wurzbacher; his children, Christine (Michael) Galperin and Brian (Amanda) Kannel, as well as his six grandchildren: Kristia, Ethan, Paige, Josiah, Derek, and Micah. Bill loved spending time with his family, cooking for them, entertaining them with stories, and attending their many sporting events and extracurricular activities. He had an incredibly kind heart and always sought to take care of his family in any way he could. Through his marriage to Jane, he gained even more family members that he adored and spent much time with Bill was a staple in the northeast Ohio grocery industry for over 40 years, working much of his life at Fleming Foods, along with Associated Grocers and Avalon Foodservice, where he finished his career at age 65. In his free time, Bill was an avid golfer and sports fan, spending countless hours watching Cleveland and Ohio State sports, and, of course, golf. He was a beloved regular at the Massillon VFW, where he became a member after serving at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Bill also loved to travel, and frequently drove across the country to visit famous landmarks, naval bases, and family and friends. After nearly a year without travel due to COVID-19, Bill was fortunate to embark on one final trip just before his passing.
