Bill suddenly left Jeff, Nick and Carla, the rest of his family and his friends on December 8th and raced into Heaven to be forever reunited with his lifelong love Darla. Bill also joined his Mom and Dad Bill and Betty Phelps. On that day, Bill’s 69 Roadrunner went silent and the wheels on his 58 stopped turning. This came as a shock to all of us and is a tremendous loss to Bill’s family and friends. We are comforted to know that Bill and Darla are together since he missed her so very, very much. Bill was born on October 12, 1944. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Bill married his high school sweetheart Darla. Bill was then drafted and served in the United States Army for one tour during the Vietnam War. Bill and Darla were happily married for 44 years. Bill worked at the Timken Company for 35 years while also working at Moffat’s Service Station for 20 years. Bill loved cars, going racing and going to car shows. Bill spent endless hours cleaning his cars and loved decorating his house for the holidays especially for Christmas. Bill had the ability to be a trickster and made everyone laugh. Bill was such an amazing person and was there for everyone in the good and bad times. Bill helped many people work on their cars and many people were there for Bill to help him work on his Roadrunner especially his brother Paul. Bill loved eating dinners that his sisters Patty and Connie would make for him. Bill would even eat cookies with Nick on Christmas Eve during the service. Bill also loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Jr. and NHRA drag racing, especially John Force. Bill loved going to B&K and Ferraros to eat, have an endless cup of coffee and to joke around. Bill was an amazing, devoted and loving Dad and will be deeply missed by Jeff and Carla. Bill was a very loving and proud PaPa to his grandson Nick. Bill was an awesome and loving brother to Patty and Bob Harris, Connie and Ron Bates and Paul and Sybil Phelps. Bill was also the best uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and loved all of his nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was truly a legend! You will not be able to see a toothpick without thinking of that forever toothpick in his mouth. You won’t be able to see a car at Myers Lake and not think of his 58 Biscayne. You will not be able to go to a race track and not think of Bill’s 69 Roadrunner. Bill will forever live in all of us! We will forever love you! Nick his buddy said it the best “Words cannot express how much I miss you already PaPa. You will always be my buddy no matter what! Say hi to Grammy up in Heaven for me!” The family will receive friends on Sunday December 19th from 2-4 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Dueber United Methodist Church, 645 Dueber Ave SW, Canton, OH 44706, with calling hours beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dueber United Methodist Church. Final resting place will take place after the service at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
