William "Bill" Martin, age 88 passed away on April 07, 2014. He was born in Carroll County OH, on January 31, 1926 to the late George and Esther Martin. He married Helen on August 13, 1950 and they were together 55 years until her passing on October 12, 2005. Bill proudly served his country during World War II, earning the Bronze Star in combat. After the war he worked as a Patrolman for the Massillon Police Department until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police #105 – Henderson Lodge, Massillon Knights of Columbus #554, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #190, Massillon Moose Lodge # 481 and was a life member of the Navarre VFW No. 5047 He is survived by his children Bill (Janice) Martin, and Patricia (Dennis) Crookston; and 5 grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11 A.M., April 12, 2014 at St. George Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church in Canton. Father Ovidiu Marginean officiating. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 6 to 8 P.M and from 8:45 to 9:45 A.M. at the Funeral Home and from 10:30 until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. For those unfamiliar with the location of the church the funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:45 am. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date.
