William J. Hoffmeyer, age 85, passed away peacefully after a long illness on June 9 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center surrounded by family. Bill was born on July 15, 1930, in Canton, Ohio, to William and Lucille Hoffmeyer. He was a graduate of Lehman High School. He worked for TimkenSteel for 38 years and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Bill enjoyed coaching and watching girls' softball, golfing, bowling, traveling, entertaining family and friends, watching his Ohio State Buckeyes, and spending time with his special pet, Puddy Tat. He was known as a kind, caring, and giving person by all those who touched his life. Bill was a member of Church of the Lakes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hoffmeyer; father-in-law, Howard Showalter; and brother-in-law, John Riley. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Sue; his daughter, Rhonda Hoffmeyer (Tanya Wright); sister, Jackie Riley; special nephews, John Riley (Loretta) and JW Riley; and special niece, Katie Riley; mother-in-law, Dorothy Showalter; and sister-in-law, Sandy Showalter. A service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at Church of the Lakes on Saturday, June 18, at noon with Pastor Bryan George officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Church of the Lakes (Royal Family Kids Camp), 5944 Fulton Dr., NW, Canton, OH 44718 or Aultman Hospice Program, 2821 Woodlawn Ave., NW, Canton, OH 44708. The family would like to thank the staff of Aultman Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and comfort they provided to Bill and the family during this time.
