William "Bill" Hammel October 5, 1923 – December 4, 2015 William, Bill, Hammel, age 92, of Massillon, OH, devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away Thursday, December 4, 2015. He was born in Beach City, Oct. 5, 1923, to the late James W. and Hazel (Wilhelm) Hammel. Bill graduated from Navarre High School where he served as class president 1939 and again in 1941, joined the army in Dec. 1942, and was honorably discharged as a TECH SGT in the 7th Division on March 1946. He attended Kansas State Univ. as a cadet in the college of Engineering and also attended Otterbein College, and graduated from the Ohio Northern Univ. with a degree in Pharmacy. Bill owned and operated the Medical Arts Pharmacy in Massillon for 25 years and opened the first drive-through pharmacy in Stark County. He had written several articles in the National American Druggist magazine. Bill was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served as an usher. He was active in the first local Cystic Fibrosis Chapter, The Massillon K of C #554, American Legion and Navarre VFW Post #5047. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. Bill had a great wit and sense of humor, loved life, and lived it to the fullest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James, sisters Kathleen Kekich, Rosemary Garmhausen, Betty Toomey, and infant grandson Chad David Lytle. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Nancy (Welch), whom he married on June 25, 1949. Bill and Nancy's Children and their families: Nancy (Jim) Lytle, their son Jeff Lytle his daughter Kara Rose and her daughter Brooklyn, Matt (Jennifer) Lytle and their daughter Hannah, Adam Courtney) Lytle and their children, Nicholas and Alexandria and Megan (Ken) Demmer and their children Alannah and Caden. William (Christine) of Jacksonville, FL, their son Yon (Carissa) and their daughters Blakely and Quinn. Bruce (Cindy) of Trinity, FL, and their sons Scott (Brooke) and their daughter Hailey, Christopher and Marcus (Diana) and their sons Emerson and Adrian. Gerald (Amy) of Navarre and their children, Jackie (Doug) Schuster and their children, Harley, Cheyanne, Phillip, Elizabeth and Gemma, Jerry (Emily) and their son Carter, Anne, Joseph, Rose and Mary Rita. Jack (Kathleen) of Santa Rosa, CA and their children Brian and Michelle. Jim of Massillon. Also surviving are sister-in-law Betty Hammel, brother-in-law Jerry (Donna) Welch of Massillon, sisters-in-law Patricia Wise, Susie (George) Berbari, and Jeannie Hodgson, all of Massillon, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be no calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30AM Wednesday, December 9, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Edward Gretchko, Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in the St. Clements Cemetery in Navarre.
