Wilfred Benjamin “Brownie” Eberhardt, age 94 of Massillon, died peacefully Sunday surrounded by his family. His death followed a brief illness. He was born on September 17, 1911 in East Greenville, Ohio and was the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Edwards) Eberhardt. He was a lifelong area resident. Brownie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He was a carpenter and a part time farmer. He loved to dance, play cards, travel and enjoyed picnics with his family. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Opal I. (Crofut) Eberhardt whom he married on December 2, 1939, daughters, Shirley (Dale) Kurzen and Donna (Jim) Hoffman both of Massillon, his grandchildren, Joni (Brent) Dingey, Daniel (April) Kurzen, Stacey (Rocky) Neuenschwander and Rick Hoffman and his great grandchildren, Adam and Lauren Dingey. There will be a private graveside service held at a later date. Rev. Kent Joy will officiate. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Newcomers Chapel of Pigeon Run United Methodist Church, 11789 Sarbaugh St. SW, Massillon, OH 44647.
