WILBUR VOGT ARNOLD II Wilbur Arnold passed on November 1, 2010. He was born on April 27, 1930; and was raised in Massillon. His parents were now deceased Wilbur and Lois (Haas) Arnold. He is survived by Ann (Fiscus) Arnold, his wife of 57 years and four children with their families: Sally (Arnold) DePerro, her husband Jeff and their two sons Jason and Tyler: Wilbur III, his wife Beth and four sons, Wilbur IV and his wife Karen, Nathan and his wife Dona, Steven and Douglas and his fiancé Bekah; Lee Ann Vogelgesang her husband William and two daughters, Anna and Susan; and son Robert and his wife Stacey. Mr. Arnold received a BS from Case Western Reserve and a MBA from Kent State University. He retired from Goodyear Aerospace Corporation in 1982 after thirty years of service and joined the Defense Systems Management College (DSMC) at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as Professor of Manufacturing Management. Then he became Director of Curriculum Development, Director of the College Eastern Region at Hanscom Air Force Base and retired as Executive Director of Research and Information in 1991. He served on Massillon City Council for six years (1960 -1966), the Massillon City School District Board of Education for 12 years (1972-1980; 2000-2004), and Stark Technical College Trustee (1972-1982) as it transitioned from Timken High School to the expanding campus. During his academic years at The Defense Systems Management College, he was nationally published on Leadership and Computer-Aided Technical Management. In 1970 he was President of the Football Booster Club when the first live tiger served as mascot for Massillon athletics. He wrote a book, The Town Tiger, about that experience. In 2005 he wrote Letters from Joyous Jimmy, a story about Jimmy Rasor's letters to the Independent and other publications. A member of Sigma Chi fraternity, he was also a past member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Defense Preparedness Association, Association of Old Crows and The Society of Logistic Engineers. After returning to Massillon in 1992 he provided consultation services on Quality Management and Leadership and entered into civic projects including the Summer Concert Series and the football booster club. In recent years he has worked with the Massillon Museum and the Massillon City Preschool program to increase art awareness in society and education. A Memorial Service will be 11 AM Saturday November 27, 2010 at the First Methodist Church in Massillon, his pastor Rev. Leslie Peine will lead the service. There will be a memorial gathering of friends from 10 AM until the service at the church.
