Wilbur G. Ress, age 93 of Massillon passed away Saturday October 27, 2012. He was born February 22, 1919 to the late Edward & Florence (Diller) Ress. He was a 1937 graduate of Washington High School. A veteran of WW II, he served as a sergeant in the 148th Infantry Division in the Solomon Islands and received three Bronze Stars. Wilbur retired from the Postal Service after 36 years. Wilbur will be remembered as an avid wood worker and photographer. He was a kind and gentle man, who always put a smile on your face. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Ress (2005), two brothers, Tom and Arthur, and his step-daughter, Judith McCune (9/21/2012). He is survived by four grandchildren: Dianna (John) Smoot, David (Denise) McCune, Debra (Tony) Myers and Danielle (Mike) Witwer. He has seven great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon, his pastor Fr. Raymond Paul will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call 5-7 PM Monday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. The family would like to recognize the staff of Amherst Meadows for their love and care.
