Walter Smith

Walter “Smitty” Smith Jr., age 79, of Dalton, (formerly of Massillon) passed away Saturday August 28, 2010 at Sterling House in Canton surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 4, 1931 in Parkersburg West Virginia. Smitty was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He retired from Superior Meats, then owned and operated Smitty’s Country Inn. Smitty was also a trophy builder for his daughter the last nine years at Bonnie’s Engraving Gallery & Signs. He was a member of the Massillon Eagles Aerie # 190, the Massillon Moose Lodge # 481, and the Son’s of Herman. Smitty was an avid bowler, and enjoyed cooking. On July 1, 1956 he married Nora Jean (Kouth). She preceded him in death March 30 1997. Surviving are his children Jeff (Faith ) Smith of Brinkhaven, OH, Bonnie (Mike) Fall of Massillon, and Duane Smith of Massillon; grandchildren Michelle Fall and Matthew Smith; step-grandchildren Leah, Sticks, and Angie; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister’s-in-law Carolyn Krug of East Greenville, and Roseann (Carl) Kegley of Canton. Along with his wife he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Nora Profant, and step-brother Mart Woodruff. Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 1st at 1:00 P.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd NE where visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions in Smitty’s memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
