Walter William “Bill” Smith, age 81, of Massillon, OH passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Aultman Hospital Palliative Care Unit after a brief illness. Bill was born September 15, 1928 in Rachel, WV the son of the late Joseph F. and Rose (Strincosky) Smith. He was raised in Uniontown, PA where he graduated from South Union Twp. High School in 1947. In 1974 he moved to Massillon where he was employed as a security guard with Union Drawn (a division of Republic Steel) for 16 years retiring in 1990. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He served as a volunteer fireman in South Union Twp., and was also a member of the Uniontown V.F.W. Post # 47. In Massillon, Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed making wine and gave much away during the holidays. Bill is survived by his wife Evelyn (Beal) whom he married June 13, 1953. Also surviving are daughters Jacquelyn S. (Mark) Curtis of Carlisle, PA, and Janet R. (Larry) Marks of Louisville, OH; a sister Helen Bail of Uniontown, PA; grandchildren Jason and Megan Curtis, Brian, Ben and Vanessa Marks. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Joseph, Robert, Charles, and Carl Smith, and a sister Irene Smith. Visitation will be Friday September 10th from 6 to 8 P.M. and Saturday from 9 to 9:45 A.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd. NE, Massillon, OH 44646. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Massillon with Father Ed Gretchko officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
