Walter Glenn Shannon

Walter Glenn Shannon Sr., age 82 of Massillon passed away on the evening of October 14, 2011. He passed peacefully in his sleep after a lengthy illness at the Cleveland VA-Wade Park Hospital. Walter attended Massillon Washington High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He met his wife, Doris (Gray) during this time via letters. They were married on August 2, 1953 in Dennison, OH at her parents'home. They have shared 58 wonderful years together! Walter enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He was devoted to helping the Massillon Tiger Swing Band (which several of his children and grandchildren have participated in) by working the popcorn stand. He volunteered at the popcorn stand from 1967 to present. Walter was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Wanda Irene Shannon, sisters Mary Ball, Effie Davlin and a brother Ralph Shannon. Surviving is his sweetheart of 58 years Doris (Gray) Shannon and their children Vickie (late Dean) Anderson, Brenda Baxter, Hazel (David) Sanders, Walter (Marta) Shannon Jr., Tammy (Larry) Kerstetter Jr. all of Massillon and Donald (Grace) Shannon Sr. of Texas,. Grandchildren: Jonathan, Crystal, Bobby, Wanda, Joshua, Stephen, Junko, Edy, Santos, Michael, Vanessa, Donald Jr., Nefi, Justine, Jeremy, Daniel, Athena, Shawn, Bianca, Karleia, Ashley, Jessica, Amber, Larry III, Racheal, Benjamen, Joseph and Shannon; great grandchildren' Samari, Alehia, Jayden, Pallas, Dominic, Declan, Connor, Ao and Miou. He also has several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Wednesday (October 19, 2011) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. (2625 Ohio State Drive, Massillon). Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Church and from 10 AM until the service begins on Wednesday at the church. Family is requesting NO FLOWERS to be sent.
