Virginia Urbas

Virginia Oberhauser Urbas, 90, passed away on the morning of September 3, 2011 from a brief illness following a fall in her home. Virginia was born on October 24, 1920 in Canton Ohio to the late John and Louise (Birtch) Oberhauser. She was raised in Massillon and graduated from Washington High School in 1938. She was employed by the J.C. Penney Company prior to her marriage to James T. Urbas in 1945. Virginia devoted her entire adult life to her family: her husband, children, grand children and great grandchildren, as well as her extended family of nieces and nephews. Her family and friends, and all who knew her, will remember her fun-loving spirit and generous heart. She was a lifelong and active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Massillon, and the Columbian Ladies Guild of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1987 and four sisters: Cecilia Carocielli, Mildred Pettay, Dorothy Rice, and Mary Jane Grafton. Virginia will be deeply missed by her five children: Michael J. (Patricia) Urbas of Tampa FL, Sharon Reiter of North Canton, Elizabeth (Scott) Smouse of Pittsburgh PA, Janine (Charles) Fisher of Massillon, and Mark S. (Kim) Urbas of St. Petersburg, FL. She will also be truly missed by eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Massillon. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, September 5th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at The Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Stark County.
