Virginia Ann Schlegel

Virginia Ann Schlegel, 87, of Massillon, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Virginia was born on April 11, 1937, she was the daughter of Thomas and Harriet Altland.

Virginia was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1955 graduate of Washington High School. She worked at Elum Music Company for many years. She was an avid Massillon Tiger and Cleveland Indians fan. She was a member of the W.H.S. Alumni Association and Massillon Women's Club. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and playing cards in her Card Club with her close friends. She and her late husband Tom enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Florida. She loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Virginia was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Cindy (Mark) Hickey, James (Barb) Schlegel, Jon Schlegel, and Ann (Richard) Laase; grandchildren, Elise (Pete) Buchholz, Ryan (Danielle) Hickey, Meghan Hickey, Eric (Layne) Laase, Trevor (Judy Marie) Laase, and Jason (Brit) Miller; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Hupp; sister-in-law, Rebecca Schlegel; brother-in-law, Dennis (Linda) Schlegel; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Schlegel with whom she shared 60 years of marriage prior to his passing; brothers, Thomas Altland, Jr., and DeVer Altland; sisters, Carol Longworth, and Sonia Geschwind.

The family would like to thank the staff at Canton Regency for their compassionate care of our mother, Virginia.

The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 5-7 pm. A Celebration of Virginia's Life will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 11:00 at Faith Lutheran Church: 107 6th Street SW, Massillon, OH 44647.
