Viola E. Miller

Viola E. Miller, age 101 of Massillon, passed away Saturday afternoon at Hanover House. Viola was born on September 16, 1906 in Winfield, Ohio to the late Welty D. and Ida N. (Zurcher) Hoopingarner. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ and a charter member of the New England Garden Club. Viola enjoyed taking care of others, quilting and crocheting. She had made over 400 newborn hats for hospitals. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Orlando H. Miller in 1964; son, Don Miller; brothers, Jasper and Woodrow Hoopingarner; sister, Irene Shaffer and a granddaughter, Carla Oser. Viola is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rex (Susan) Miller of Massillon; daughter and son-in-law, Doris (Carl) Oser of Massillon; daughter-in-law, Carol Miller of Massillon; brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Mary) Hoopingarner of Smyrna, Ohio, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Funeral services celebrating Viola’s life will be held Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Grace United Church of Christ in Massillon with Rev. Barry Stirbens officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will take place following the services at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
