Verl Bishop Whitis

Verl Bishop Whitis, 83 of Massillon, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 following a lengthy illness. Verl was born on March 31, 1934 in Towanda, IL the son of William and Mae (Edwards) Whitis. He grew up in Kentucky and moved to the area in the 50’s. Verl was a United States Army veteran. He worked for the Chrysler Corporation, retiring after 30 years of service. Verl enjoyed fishing, reading Western comic books, and watching the Cleveland Browns. Verl was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Russell and James Whitis and his sister, Gladys Moughler. He is survived by his wife Carol Ann (Dretke) Whitis whom he married on June 17, 1983; his son, Anthony Verl (Naomi) Whitis; step-children, Earl Warren (Julie) Smith and Emily Marie (Walter) Weldon; grandchildren, Benjamin (Bethany), Joshua and Zachary Pauli, Nikole (Brian) Kucharik, Holly and Brendan Smith; 4 great grandsons; sisters, Maxine Harrison and Ruby Cundiff; brothers, William Whitis and Jerry (Connie) Whitis; and sister-in-laws, Dolores Dilsauer and Clarabell Whitis. A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either Crossroads Hospice or Mt.
