Velma M. Kirby, 88, of Massillon, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at her residence. She was born on February 12, 1922 in Red Boiling Springs, TN the daughter of George W. and Ruthie A. (West) Ford. Velma lived in the area most of her life. She and her late husband, Milton Kirby, worked at Navarre Flea Market for 17 years. Velma was a member of Laurel Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Milton H. Kirby, in 2004; her son, Jeff Kirby, and two brothers. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Jeannette Thomas of Canton, Linda (Mark) Nickol of Massillon, Willa Dean (Denny) Shaffer of Zoarville and Terry (Sharon) Kirby of Massillon; her grandchildren, Torri (Andy) Petyovszki, Nancy (Bert) Melhorn, Tracy Berkey, Nikki Harless, Molly (Rick) Stevens, Ashley (Terry) Gulley, Trisha Kirby and Jeffery Kirby; 11 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Her nephew, Jerry Kirby, will be officiating. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery.
