Tom Allan Borcoman

July 26, 1946 — July 3, 2021

Tom A. Borcoman, 74, was born to Victor and Marie (Muntean) Borcoman on July 26, 1946. He went on to the heavenly courthouse on July 3, 2021. He joins his beloved family members who predeceased him, his parents, his brother John and all his favorite dogs. Tom is survived by his nephews, Tom, Tate and Toby Borcoman, cousins Susan Markley, JoAnne Muntean, Janice (Muntean) Smith, Jack Muntean and special friends, Jeanette Mullane, Cathy VanNostran, and Tom Elum, along with his sweet soul of a dog, Lucky, his horse, Lakota and many friends and fans. He was a graduate of Kent State University (Bachelor of Science 1969) and the University of Akron School of Law (Juris Doctor 1974). He was a math teacher and coach at Jackson High School prior to becoming an attorney. Tom loved the law and was inspired as a lawyer by the great Clarence Darrow. He believed that everyone was innocent until proven guilty and had a right to a jury trial. He started his career at the Stark County Public Defender’s Office and later went into private practice and became a prominent criminal defense attorney and even once served as a special prosecutor for Stark County. Tom was a brilliant lawyer, trial advocate and worthy and honorable opponent. His sonorous voice could command a jury. He defined collegiality. He was a role model for attorneys and often mentored young attorneys. Despite appearing to wing it with ease, Tom worked hard at his profession and taught many others to do so as well. No one was more prepared than Tom when he went to trial. He always had a creative theory of the case to present to a jury. He fought the good fight and won. Although he fought hard, he fought fair and prosecutors respected him. Tom was a member of the Lake Cable Recreation Association. He was an outstanding thespian with the Courthouse Players and the Players Guild. He performed main roles in 12 Angry Men and The Andersonville Trial, including a performance in the U.S. Court of Claims in Washington D.C. where the original trial had been held. Most of Stark County knew him as a prominent criminal defense attorney, Tom A. Borcoman. To his dear friends, he was fondly known as Borco. Always ready with a helping hand or a favorite story. He was thoughtful, kind and as generous with his time as he was with his impressive expertise. Everyone knew a good time was coming when Borco walked in the door of a favorite watering hole. He was a strong supporter of all Cleveland sports. Go Tribe! A natural athlete, he played in softball games, golf scrambles, volleyball leagues and pinball tournaments with equal intensity. He always had the top score in the nearest Golf Tee game. With his worldly knowledge, trivia was a favorite pastime. Tom was a fan of Judge Judy and knew every episode of Law & Order. He found peace in fishing at Lake Cable. He found joy in a lively debate. He found deep affection and respect in all his many loving friends. Cheers to you, Tom. May your memory bring more smiles than tears. May we always remember the good times with laughter in our hearts. Celebration of Life will be held on August 27, 2021 from 4-10 pm at the Lake Cable Clubhouse, 5725 Fulton Rd NW, Canton, Ohio 44718. Wear your favorite Cleveland Indians or Cleveland Browns Attire. Contributions can be made in Tom’s memory to Friends of the Stark Pound, 1801 Mahoning Rd NE, Canton OH 44705 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
