Thomas Washington Hurd, age 86, of Massillon, Ohio, was born in Wetumpka, Alabama on November 22, 1926 to the late Willie and Picola Cain Hurd. He entered into eternal peace at his home on Sunday, August 4, 2013 following a brief illness. Thomas was reared and received his early education at the Union Rosenwald Elementary School and was a graduate of the W.B. Doby High Training School, Wetumpka, Alabama. Thomas confessed Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age at the Crenshaw Zion A.M.E. Zion Church (nka Mt. Zion Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church), Wetumpka, Alabama. Following his retirement from the General Motors Corporation, Flint Michigan in the early 1970's, Thomas relocated to Massillon, Ohio where he settled into a quiet private life. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Picola Cain Hurd; brother: Alex Hurd; sisters: Lula M. Hurd Bell, Alma Lutelia Hurd Brown, and Willie Laura Hurd George. He leaves loving memories to be cherished by his sister, Molly Hurd Washington of Massillon, Ohio; nieces: Marva L. Bell Dodson, Massillon, Ohio; Roberta A. Bell (Dr. Robert) Fuller, Southfield, Michigan; Alma Evelyn Brown Harris, Montgomery, Alabama; Renee George, Ambridge, Pennsylvania; nephews: Lawrence W. (Pamela Kaye) Washington, Austin Texas; Ralph A. George, Las Vegas, Nevada; Special friends and neighbors: Michael and Pamela Carpenter. The Shriver Avenue, S.E. neighbors and a host of cousins and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2pm, Rev. Rosalyne Mitchell-Martin officiating. Calling hours 1 hours before the service.
