Thomas "Tom" R. Sand, 75, of Massillon, passed away on July 18, 2023. He was born on April 17, 1948 to the late. Carl and Clara (Shonk) Sand in Massillon, Ohio. Tom was a graduate of Tuslaw High School. He married Helen Hennage on February 20, 1971 and they shared 34 years together until her passing in 2005.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Medication Deliveryman from Aultman Hospital and Aultman-Woodlawn. Tom enjoyed fishing,bingo, playing Euchre and Canasta, video games, but most importantly spending time with his family. He was a spontaneous guy with an amazing sense of humor. Tom will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Tom leaves to cherish his memory his children, Ellie (Chris) Hartney, Michael Sand, April Sand; his grandchildren Xavier Sand, and Dakota Hartney; his brother Wayne (Carole) Sand; his sister Margaret (Richard) Leyda; his special nieces and nephew Tina Hennage-Hodge, Calvin (Kim) Hennage, and Janine Sand-Hoskinson, Mike Sand, Julie (Scott) Carroll as well as a host of nieces, nephew, great-nieces and nephews, family and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Tom was preceded in death by his brother Robert Sand.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 2p.m at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be at Newman Cemetery where military honors will be rendered for Tom's honorable and faithful service to his country. The family will meet at Newman Cemetery for the Committal Service.
