Thomas "Tom" Monroe Nelson

Thomas "Tom" Nelson, age 64 passed away on December 8, 2014, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Canton on August 17, 1950 to the late Everette and Marguerite (Flaherty) Nelson. He was a 1968 graduate of Perry High School as well as a graduate of Miami University. He married Susan Brown on July 12, 1975 and they shared 39 years until his passing. Tom was an outstanding athlete at Perry High School and was inducted into the first Perry High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class in 2009. He continued his football career at Miami University. Tom came back to his alma mater to teach and coach for the next 30 years until his retirement in 2002. One of Tom's passions was the great outdoors, spending endless hours hunting, fishing, playing golf. He loved spending time doing woodwork in his workshop completing many projects for family and friends. He will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Tosh; his daughters Elizabeth (Michael) Stark and Lindsay (Josh) Hose; his grandchildren Jackson, Landon, Asher, Corigan, and Bennett; his sister Terry (Nick) Price and his brother James Nelson. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother Richard Nelson. A Celebration of his life will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 11 A.M. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Sunday, December 14, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M.
