Thomas Lee Jackson Jr, 81, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. He was born in Parral, Ohio on June 16, 1941 to Thomas L. and Mattie (Golden) Jackson. Raised by his grandparents Wade H and Mittie Dawson Golden in New Philadelphia, Ohio. He moved to Massillon, Ohio where he graduated from Washington High School. He served five years with the United States Airforce, then returned to Massillon where he was appointed to the Massillon Police Department in 1967. Many wonderful experiences followed, including graduation from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Administration.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his son Robert Woods, and his sisters Patricia Ann and Antoinette Jackson.
He is survived by his two Daughters, JoVon Black and Tracy (Terry) Jackson- Jones; Niece, Antoinette Jackson; Nephew, Mark Hampton Jackson; Two Sisters, Deborah (Brian) McCants and Beverly Jackson; Brother, Cornell (Rebecca) Jackson; Granddaughters, Toi (Thomas) Jackson-Snell and Andrisha Woods; Grandsons, Robert Woods, Kory Woods, Marcus Woods and Jarret (Chelsea) Woods; and Daughter in-law, Lisa Woods
Thomas Jackson thought of life as an opportunity to explore all of the wonders of the universe, and that learning, and curiosity were the driving forces. Literature and music were of particular importance. He was fond of quoting the writer who said in the end the United States would be remembered for three things, The Constitution, Jazz music, and baseball.
During his Life, Thomas Lee Jackson Sr. belonged to and participated in many civic, social and fraternal organizations. He was involved in several work related and professional endeavors.
Ultimately, his thoughts and pursuits were for equality without equivocation.
Visitation will be held on Thursday. May 4th, 2023 from 10am to 12pm at Paquelet Funeral Home with a service directly following at 12pm. Burial will take place at Dover Burial Park.
