Thomas "Tom" J. Smith, 88 passed away on September 12, 2012. He was born on November 8, 1923 in Massillon to the late Clark T. and Esther (Karrenbauer) Smith. He was a 1942 graduate of Washington High School. He married Eileen Smith on February 1, 1946 and she survives. Tom proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force spending time in France and Germany. After the war he went to work for Ohio Edison retiring after 44 years of service. Tom was a lifelong member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church. He was also a member of Amvets Post #6 and the American Legion Post #221 in Massillon. Tom was a well read person, and a go to guy if anyone had a problem. He loved to play golf. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen T. (Annette) Smith and Monica A. (Mark) Coventry; his grandchildren, Christina Smith, Brian and Derek Coventry, and his brother Clark Smith of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Laverne and Melvin Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Barbara's Catholic Church on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10 A.M., Father Thomas Cebula, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Burial will be at Brookfield Cemetery.
