Suzanne W. Ahlstrom, of Massillon, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Laurels of Massillon. She was born on January 29, 1926 in Massillon to the late Ernest and Leah (Lautenslager) Weirich. Following graduation from Washington High School she earned her degree in nursing from Baldwin-Wallace College. She was a registered nurse and a nursing instructor at the former Massillon City Hospital for many years. She was a lifelong loyal member of St Paul's Lutheran Church and served on numerous committees as well as volunteer groups including giving communion to shut ins. In addition she loved being part of the sewing group that made quilts that were sent to impoverished countries, usually an average of 70 quilts a year; Massillon Ohio Tiger cheerleader; Massillon City Hospital nursing instructor 25 years. She was a member and served on a number of committees of the Massillon Women's Club. She was an honorary member of the Turkeyfoot East Shore Assoc. She served the Red Cross for many years as a volunteer working the blood mobile and taking blood pressures. She served on the board of the Massillon Community Hospital. She was instrumental in starting the Hospice of Stark County and was on the board for a number of years. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald E. Ahlstrom in 2010. She was also preceded by her son Mark Ahlstrom, her grandson Gregory Ahlstrom, Jr. and her brother James Weirich. She is survived by her sons, Gregory Ahlstrom, Sr. and his wife Judith, Robert Ahlstrom and Richard Ahlstrom, her grandchildren, Christopher Ahlstrom, Sam Ahlstrom, Cate Ahlstrom, Emily Justice and her husband Jack and Lucas Ahlstrom. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan, Olivia and Amy. A service to commemorate the life of Suzanne Ahlstrom will take place on Saturday at 12 Noon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. David Saylor officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:30 – 12:00 Noon.
