Susan Kowick Clark, 66, of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Windsor Medical Center on Thursday, November 13, 2024. Sue was born in Steubenville, Ohio on January 31, 1958, to the late Ben and Stella (Humienny) Kowick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Christina Kowick, and nephew T. Alexander Kowick.
Susan was the youngest daughter of Ben and Stella Kowick, attended Toronto St. Francis grade school, Steubenville Catholic Central High School (1976) and the University of Akron (1983), earning an Associate’s degree in Surgical Assisting Technology. She worked as a Surgical Assistant at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center in Canton for more than 25 years.
She was a strong patient advocate placing the care of her patients above all else. She earned the respect of her associate doctors and nurses, took a leadership role in the operating room, quickly perceived any potential surgical problems and served as a mentor for new associates.
She was also a strong advocate for any animal or pet, applying her medical and surgical skills to the that population. In addition to caring for her own dogs and cats, dedicated time was spent volunteering at the local animal hospital.
Several crafting organizations benefited from her deep engagement. Her artistic ability took her into rug-hooking, scrapbooking, silver-smithing, and glass blowing. She was very talented, a natural teacher and motivator, and held leadership positions in these organizations for years! They loved her!
She was fiercely loyal to all her friends, always willing and ready to help. The love and care she gave freely to those lucky enough to call her a friend, will be missed and never forgotten.
She is survived by her brother, Thomas Kowick, sister-in-law, Julia Kowick, niece Margaret Halleland and her husband Ross, and great nephew/niece, Jake and Quinn Halleland, all of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are many members from her extended relatives of the Humienny, Mieczkowski, Sobolewski, Harasick families.
At Sue’s request, there were no calling hours. Once cremated, her request was to spread her ashes during the future travel adventures of her surviving family. Some will also be placed at the Toronto cemetery with her deceased family members.
