Susan Kay Wills, 65, of Dalton, OH, passed away unexpectedly on March 26, 2024.
She was born the youngest of three children to parents John and Mary Wills (Shaffer) on December 19, 1958, in Massillon, OH, growing up in nearby Stanwood, OH.
She is survived by a sister, Jane Warehime (Wills) of Navarre, OH, a brother, David Wills of Conroe, TX, an extended family of several cousins, many nieces and nephews in the area, four grand nephews, 7 grand nieces, and her two canine companions, Harrison and Beans.
At an early age Sue developed an affection for animals. Almost never during her life was she not caring for a pet - a dog, a cat, or both. After graduating from Tuslaw High School, she continued her education, receiving her accreditation as an LPN, and then as a registered nurse. This led to positions in the medical profession, beginning as an emergency room nurse at Massillon Community Hospital. She eventually moved into the visiting nurse area employed with Care Source since 2017 as an RN Case Manager. She was known as a compassionate clinician to her patients and a mentor to her colleagues.
Sue was an avid student of history, having spent a great deal of time researching and compiling information on her family’s ancestors. This included many trips to historic sites in Zoar, New Philadelpia, and all the way to Europe on a recent trip visiting WW II sites in Belgium, France and Luxembourg. While there she was ‘adopted‘ as ‘Granny Suze’ by the Claiborne Ducks, a World War II reenactment group near Paris, France.
A future graveside service at the Stanwood Cemetery is planned.
