Susan Irene (Gang) Tormasi, age 85, went home to be with the Lord peacefully Thursday March 14, 2024. Sue was born July 28, 1938 in Canton, Ohio, the eldest daughter to the late Clement Jerome and Lucille Irene (Schumacher) Gang Sr. She grew up with 11 siblings that she stayed close to over the years. She worked at many places during her lifetime, including Ben Franklin, the Canton Repository, Mids Spaghetti Sauce factory, Hill’s Department Store and Carol’s Pizza in Navarre, and delivered film for Waltz Film Company. Her lifelong love of sewing led to her being an avid sewist/seamstress. She was always actively involved in sewing or fixing things for family and friends along the way. On numerous occasions, she also made the entire wedding party dresses for weddings, which included her own wedding. Her latest sewing contributions were making pillowcases and embroidering hand towels for local hospitals supporting sick children. During her children’s school years, she was a stay at home mom and was also very charitable in many ways. She was a member of St Clement’s Catholic Church in Navarre, and not only very active with the church and school leadership, but with the daily school lunch volunteer program, taught 8th grade girls how to sew, annual festival planning, Women’s Society, quilting club, local Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, and Boy Scouts summer camp craft programs. She also served as a District Committee member for the Boys Scouts in Stark County. Still, this past year she personally delivered evening meals from Otterbein Church to many local residents.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Tormasi Jr. in October 2015, whom she married in July 1960, her brother Robert J. Gang in July 2011, and her infant sister, Susan, of whom she was named after. She is survived by three loving and caring sons, Andy (Susan) Tormasi III, where she resided, Jim (Janet) Tormasi of Illinois, and Chip (Cindy) Tormasi of Navarre.
She leaves behind seven grandsons, Nick (Mandy) Tormasi of Navarre, Nate (Lindsey) Tormasi of Navarre, Josh (Erica) Tormasi of Toledo, Drew Tormasi of Canton, Kevin (Caroline) Tormasi of Las Vegas, Travis (Britney) Tormasi of Navarre, Joseph Tormasi of Navarre, and 3 granddaughters, Jamie (Jeff) Mitchell of Tennessee, Jane (Sam) Hopkins of Illinois, and Ashley Tormasi of South Carolina; 15 great grandchildren who she adored; siblings, Clem Gang of Navarre, Joe (Sue) Gang of Florida, Tom (Grace) Gang of Navarre, Rose (John ) Thomas of Canton, Roberta (Hobert) Harmon of Canton, Josephine Brown of Canton, Jerry (Stokes) Pitman of Canton, Kate Brennan of Massillon, and Marge (Terry) Jones of Canton. There are also several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many great friends and neighbors. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 10:00 am at Holy Family Parish at St. Clement Catholic Church in Navarre. Fr. Michael Seifert, Officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Clement Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
