Stephen M. Tarle, 77, of Massillon, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 following a lengthy illness. Stephen was born on August 23, 1946 to Martin and Magdeline (Bogovich) Tarle.
Steve was a remarkable man whose kindness, unwavering faith in God, and steadfast commitment to family defined his life. Steve’s compassion touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him and his kindness knew no bounds, leaving a lasting impact on the lives he encountered. His faith offered him solace and strength, guiding him through life's joys and challenges.
His devotion to family was unparalleled, as he cherished and prioritized his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel, and he especially enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their activities. He was a Massillon Tiger football player and played for two state championship teams in 1960 and 1961. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University where he was a four-year starter. Steve was an active member at First United Methodist Church in Massillon and a volunteer with The Boys and Girls Club of Massillon, The Massillon Tiger Football Boosters, and The Massillon Salvation Army. Steve leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion, forever etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Tarle with whom he shared 40 years of marriage; children, Sonja (Brett) White, Shelley (Jason) Tuma, Mark (Danielle) Tarle, and Greg (JoAnne) Tarle; grandchildren, Nathan (Bailey) White, Jack White, Anna White, Joshua Tuma, Owen Tuma, Ella Tarle, Lauren Tarle, Mandy Tuma, and Drew Tarle; sisters, Barb (Don) Steele, and Alice (Rob) Hansbarger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martina McCallum.
A Celebration of Stephen’s life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at First United Methodist Church: 301 Lincoln Way E, Massillon, OH 44646 at 12 p.m. Friends are invited to gather at the church from 11 am to 12 pm prior to the service. Following the service all are welcome to join Steve’s family for a luncheon in the fellowship hall.
