Starling Wesley Macmillan (Mcmillen)

Starling Wesley MacMillan (McMillen), 96, passed away Wednesday, January 7 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born in Somerton, Ohio, February 11, 1912 the son of the late James B. and Alice (Lentz) MacMillan. Starling was a born again Christian since the age of five, a faithful husband and dedicated father. He was an active “Gideon” in both Ohio and Kentucky and a long standing member of First Church of God in Massillon and Wesley Free Methodist Church in Wilmore, Kentucky. A patriotic man, he was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America for many years and stayed very involved in conservative politics. He held a BS degree in Physics from Muskingum College (New Concord, Ohio) and an MS Teaching/Education degree from Kent State University (Kent, Ohio). Starling enjoyed a career in both education and industry. After years of teaching in Ohio schools, he took a position at Goodyear Aerospace in Akron as a technical writer where he would later retire after 15 years of loyal service. He settled into Wesley Village in Wilmore, Kentucky, home to Asbury College, about a decade ago. Starling was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Helen (Messerschmidt), who passed away in 1990. He is survived by his three children, Carolyn (John) Buby of Tallahassee, Florida, David MacMillan of Massillon and Richard (Mary) MacMillan of Sherwood, Illinois; grandchildren included Emily King, Babette (Mark) Boone, David (Kaitlyn) MacMillan II, Jill (Jo e) Campoy, Lisa (CJ Jr.) Harris and Wes (Katie) MacMillan; great grandchildren included George, Olivia, Karl, David III, Will, Josiah, Mark, Theo, Anavah, Brenna, True, Eden, Andrew, Christopher, Rachel, Christina, Cierra, CJ III, and Fiona; and one great, great grandchild, Sydnee Yvonne Jane. Calling hours will be Sunday, January 11 from 12-3 P.M. at Arnold Lynch Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd. NE. A memorial service and celebration of Starling’s life will follow at Forty Corners Church of God, 3474 Beaumont Avenue NW, Massillon at 4 P.M with a reception to follow. David MacMillan II will officiate. The burial will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery in Massillon at 11 A.M on Monday, January 12.
