Shirley R. Houston

Shirley R. Houston, 82 of Massillon, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 18, 2019. Shirley was born on March 19, 1936 in Portsmouth, Ohio the daughter of the late Roy and Mary (Scales) Brown. She retired from Bridgestone / Firestone following 33 years of dedicated service as a legal secretary. She also retired from Myers Controlled Power as a receptionist. Shirley was a member of New Dawn Chapter #80 O.E.S. PHA, AL KAF Court #144 and St. James AME Zion Church. She enjoyed reading, going to movies and spending time with her family. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Reid and brothers, Henry, Michael, David, Cornelius, James and Colonel Leo Brown. She is survived by her husband Sylvester Houston with whom she shared 38 years of marriage; sister, Dorothy (Carl) Ferguson; brothers, Anthony (Yvette) Brown and Dwight (Mary) Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Home Going Celebration will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. James AME Zion Church. Rev. LeCounte Nedab II, Officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
