Samuel L. “Sam” Marang, 74 of Massillon, died on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on January 8, 1936 in Canton, Ohio and was the son of the late Harold and Lydia (Studer) Marang. He was a lifelong area resident. Sam enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during the Korean Conflict while aboard the USS Boston He then went on to work at the Union Drawn Division of Republic Steel where he was an inspector. He retired following 31 years of service. Sam was a member of the Cypress Lodge # 604 F. & A.M.. the USS Boston Shipmates, the US Navy Cruisers Sailors Association, the American Legion Post 221, the Massillon Amateur Radio Club and the Rubber Capital Harmonica Club of Akron. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Warren Byer and sister Freda Hykes. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years MaryEllen (Gohn) Marang, his sons Eric (Candy) Marang and Keith (Karen) Marang, his grandchildren Kara, Andrew and Colin Marang, brothers Blaine (Lucille) Byer and Harold Dean (Donna) Byer, his sister-in-law LaDean Byer and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 28th at 11:30 A.M. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Marang officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Clinton Lodge will hold a Masonic Service at 5:15 P.M. on Monday. Those who wish may make a memorial in Sam’s name to their favorite charity.
