Sallie Mae Beard Lattimer, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2020 at the Laurels of Massillon, Ohio following a declining illness. She was born Sallie Mae Terry on July 28, 1927 in Ideal, Georgia to the late Wille T. and Lizzie (Williams) Terry, the youngest of 7 children. Sallie received her early education in Ellaville Schools. She accepted Christ at an early age. Upon relocating to Detroit, Michigan in 1950, she was employed by the Detroit Public Schools and retired after many years of service. She united with the Ephesians Baptist Church of Detroit and later became a founding, active member of the New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan where she actively served on the Board of Deaconess and the Missionary Society (Rev. William Holly, Jr., Pastor). Since her relocation to Massillon, Ohio she has been under the loving “Watchcare” of the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church (Rev. LeCounte P. Nedab, II, Pastor). Sallie met and married William Beard, Jr. and Deacon Lewis Lattimer, both of whom preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, Sallie was preceded in death by three sisters, Fannie Terry Harp, Maggie Terry Griffith, and Zillar Terry Turner; three brothers, Martin Terry, Tom Henry, and Albert. Sallie will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend. Sallie enjoyed gardening, sharing time with family and eating her favorite meal of Fish & Shrimp. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Mallory L. Beard of Columbus, Georgia; step sons, William (Gloria) Beard of Akron, Ohio and James (Bobbie Jo) Lattimer of Detroit, Michigan; grandchildren, Audrey Beard (Royal) Jackson of Novi, Michigan and Alexander Beard of Henderson, Nevada; great-grandsons, Royal and Legend Jackson of Novi, Michigan; step grandchildren, Gregory (Shiona) Nelson of Henderson, Nevada and Angelina Pyo of Honolulu, Hawaii; special nephew, Eric Harp of Detroit, Michigan; special nieces, Zandra Robinson-Mitchell of Atlanta, Georgia, Renee Harp of Detroit, Michigan, and Sheila Lattimer – Eskew of Detroit, Michigan; special friends, Marva L. Dodson, Celeste M. Jones, Sheila A. Lloyd, Josephine Dixon and Rev. LeCounte P. Nedab, II all of Massillon, Ohio and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A Private Homegoing Celebration for immediate family will be held on Friday, April 3, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. For those unable to attend there will be live Facebook Streaming at 1 p.m. at Facebook Live Streaming . Contributions may be made to Paquelet Funeral Home to help defray costs.
