Ruth Pearl Jess

August 27, 1926 — December 7, 2020

God called his angel, Ruth Pearl Jess, home on December 7, 2020. Ruth was born August 27, 1926, to Ruth (Migge) and Paul Hoverland in Massillon, Ohio. She fondly recounted her youth as spending time with her cousins, playing softball and enjoying Sippo Creek that ran through the yard in back of the family home on Tremont Street. She graduated from Massilon’s Washington High School in 1944 and was a proud Tiger alumna. During her life, in addition to being a home maker, she worked at the Ration Board (during World War II), Baltzy’s Drugstore, the First National Bank, and many years at the Massillon Club. Ruth married Arnold Jess on November 7, 1948 and spent nearly 50 years with him before his passing in 1997. Together they raised their children, traveled, were active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and played Euchre with their many friends and family. Later in life Ruth became a member of the First Christian Church. She was a former President of the Delta Theta Tau Society, an avid reader, loved to eat good food, and loved to feed the birds and squirrels who frequented her yard. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and being surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth is survived by her son, Paul (Helen) Jess, her daughter, Carol (Michael) Zuzack, and her grandchildren: Alanna (Noah) Pierce, Alexander (Allison) Jess, Jessica Baumgartl(Maurice Sullivan), Jamie Lynch, Matthew McLane, Matthew’s father Randall McLane, and many great grandchildren. Ruth always said, “At the end, it’s the love that matters most.” As her family, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all her caregivers over the last several years. Visitation will be Thursday, December 17 from 5:00 - 6:00 PM with the Service immediately following at Paquelet & Arnold Lynch Funeral Home. ZOOM will be available for those not able to attend in person. SEE BELOW. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church of Massillon (1020 Wales Rd.
