Ruth Esther (Tschantz) Putman, 90 of Massillon passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 following a short illness. She was born in Mt. Eaton, OH on July 24, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Earl E. and Lillie (McConkey) Tschantz. Ruth graduated from Washington High School in 1939 and went on to work at the former Ohio Edison Co. She retired in 1963. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Putman, her sister Norma (Ken) Rhode and her brother Larry Tschantz. She is survived by her sister, Shirley (Don) Tope of Massillon, niece and nephews, Elizabeth (David) Eberhard of Vermilion, Ruth (John) Waltman of Millersburg, Ken Rhode of Flagstaff, AZ, John Rhode of Los Angeles, CA, Michael (Alice) Tope of Columbia, MD and Kathryn (Philip) Heller of Louisville. Also surviving are 11 great nieces and nephews. Not having children, her family was her nieces and nephews. She was a very generous and loving person. Ruthie loved to cook, sew, read books and play bridge in her younger years. Later in life she enjoyed watching, TV. Her favorite programs were major tennis matches, football, baseball, sitcoms and soaps. Ruthie loved dogs. Her last one was named Minnie, a Llasa Apso. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Rector Henry Harris from her church, St. Timothy's Episcopal Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmot, OH. Memorials are suggested to either Stark County Humane Society, 5100 Peach St. NE, Louisville, OH 44641 or St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 226 Third St. SE, Massillon, OH 44646.
