Russell Henry Etherton died from complications of prostate cancer on October 8, 2018. He spent most of his life in Stark County. He was born on November 20, 1928 and raised in Beach City graduating from BCHS in 1946. He graduated from Mt Union University in 1949 and went into service in the US Air Force as an officer. He served in Japan during the Korean War and in France during the 1961 Berlin Crisis. After service in the Air Force, he joined the Ohio Air National Guard where he rose to the rank of Lt Colonel before his retirement in 1988. After leaving the Air Force, he returned with his family to Perry Township where he worked as an Insurance Adjustor for Travelers Insurance and Midwestern Indemnity. He served as President of the Stark County Claimsmen Association and as a local Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. A lifelong aviation enthusiast, he served as President of the Beach City Airport Association. He is preceded in death by his parents Harmon Henry and Lura Wanda Etherton. He is survived by his wife the former Grace Darling Frees and his son Russell Stephen and his wife Karen, their daughter Libby, his son Jonathan Lewis and wife Susan, their children Sarah and Jay, and his son James Harmon and his wife Gina, their children Kara and Isaac , son-in-law Dave and grandchildren Tyler, Micah, and Jude. Friends may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 6pm-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10:30am in the Paquelet Funeral Home, Pastor Bob Cheyney, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Beach City Cemetery.
