ROSE MARY (PAUL) CARMOLA, 99, of Massillon, died at her residence on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 surrounded by her family after a long struggle with dementia. Rose, affectionately known as "MAMA ROSE" was born May 3, 1917 in McKeesport, Pa. to the late Frances (Link) and Martin Paul and was the oldest of 9 children. Growing up in the Age of Depression, she overcame many obstacles, but nothing stopped her from achieving the impossible, from tending to her younger brothers and sisters, marrying the love of her life, establishing her family-owned flower business (which continues to flourish after 65 years!), raising her four children and finding the time to give of herself within the community — not bad for someone who completed the 6"' grade and went to work to support her family! ROSE was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Massillon, Christian Mothers Altar-Rosary Confraternity, Charter member of the Columbian Ladies Guild with Massillon Knights of Columbus, Business and Professional Women's Association, Massillon Woman's Club, past-president of Central Catholic Ladies Guild, and a member of the Italian/American Benevolent Society Ladies' Auxiliary, being awarded The Italian/American "Woman of the Year" - pretty amazing for being of German-Hungarian descent! She attended The Cleveland School of Floral Design, taught Adult Education in Floral Design at Jones School and followed her dream until she turned the business over to her daughters, Patty and Toots at the age of 88! She became the "family florist" to 3rd and 4th generations of weddings, as their counselor, advisor and friend. ROSE married Albert M. Carmola on Sept.7, 1940 in St. Joseph's Church in Dover, celebrating 40 years of marriage until his death in 1981. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Frances Leone; brothers John, Michael (Mickey), Martin and Bill Paul. She is survived by her children Joseph (Mary Lou) Carmola, Rosemarie "Bunny" (Charles) DePew, Patricia and Mary "Toots" Carmola; grandchildren Annette (Chris) Vanik, James (Robin) DePew, Joseph Carmola, Angela (Joe) Bielawski, Leslie (James) Smith, and Tony DePew and her great-grandchildren Lauren, Clayton, Sophia Rose, Hannah, Ava Rose, Michael, Jaxon and Caden; sisters Mary (Richard) Repp and Joan Sewell; brother Andrew (Alice) Paul, Sisters-in-Law Florence Paul and Gail Paul: her cousins Joe, Betty and Margaret, numerous Paul/Carmola nieces and nephews, her "adopted" and "extended" families/friends. Special thanks to Fr. Raymond Paul, Fr. Tom Bishop and Don Molinari; her physicians Dr. Rosenblatt, Dr. Martino, Dr. Coblentz; Aultman Hospice Nurses—Jennifer, Paula and Carol, and caregivers over the years: Brenda, Sandy, Angie, Libbie, Flossie, Judy S., Lori H., Jennifer M., Edye, Janice, Mary Lou, Betty, Bobbie, Candace, Betty Jean and Evelyn. The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Massillon. Visitation 2 — 7pm Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon and one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Rose loved her flowers, so flowers are welcome, but she also loved her church. Donations can be made in her name to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Massillon. What an amazing life - a woman of character, determination and a passion for helping people. She touched many lives with her kind spirit and sweet smile! "A Golden Heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best!"
