Rose (Martia) Altieri passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024, at the age of 101, after a life of love, deep faith, and a giving heart.
Born June 19th, 1922, Rose was the youngest and last survivor of seven children born to the late Dominic and Josephine Martia. She shared a close bond with her two brothers, Joseph and Paul, and her four sisters, Mary, Helen, Mildred and especially Madeline, who became her mother figure after the death of their mother, Josephine, in 1937.
Rose graduated from McKinley High School and worked at the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, until shortly after her marriage to Michael Altieri, the love of her life. They shared 45 years of marriage, until his death in 1991. She also worked for City Wide Answering Service.
She was a life long dedicated member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Canton and then Christ the Servant with the closing of St. Paul. For many years she served as a Eucharistic Minister, visited the sick, and most of all attended daily Mass. She enjoyed the Altar and Rosary Society and Mothers' Club activities, cleaning the church with the “church ladies”, working weekly bingo, and annual festivals. Rose also volunteered at the school as a room mother and did any duties that were needed.
Rose truly had the heart of a servant. A gentle, humble woman, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who always placed the family at the center of her life. She was our strongest supporter and best cheerleader. In times of stress, she was a prayer warrior, always with her rosary beads in hand. Sunday dinner was a family tradition. She was an excellent baker and started her Christmas cookie baking right after Thanksgiving. She created a home full of warmth and many happy memories. Even the smallest of things, she did with great love.
She is survived by her daughters, Ginny (Bill) Buell, Nancy (Jim) Christy and son, Robert (Terri) Altieri. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, a special niece, Rose Hardie, and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her precious granddaughter, Danelle Altieri.
A special thank you to Bethany Nursing Home for the tender and devoted care she received during her stay.
