Ronald V. Hammer

Ronald V. Hammer, age 71 of Tuscarawas Township, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. Ron was born December 10, 1937 in Massillon, the son of the late Sylvester and Alberta Hammer. He lived in Massillon his entire life and was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School. He taught Auto Body at Washington High School and retired after 25 years of service. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard of Ohio and as a reserve of the Army. Ron enjoyed woodworking, making many useful items as well as artistic pieces. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son Robert W. Hammer in 2006. He is survived by his loving companion, Linda of the residence, his children and their spouses, Richard (Michelle) Hammer of Massillon and Julie (Dale) Thompson of Beach City; his grandchildren, Cassaundra Thompson, Elisabeth Thompson and Erica Bailey; his brother and sister-in-law, Gerald (Nancy) Hammer of Massillon and his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy (Tom) Adley of Massillon. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
