Ronald C. Saylor

August 17, 1929 — August 23, 2016

Ronald C. Saylor, 87 of Massillon, passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2016 with his family at his side. He was born on August 17, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was raised by his grandparents, William and Mary Saylor. During his youth, he split time between Coshocton and Massillon. He had many ornery adventures on the west side of Massillon playing along the railroad in the woods, streams, stone quarries, and fields. He later relived those memories and shared those experiences during many long walks well into his retirement years. As a youngster in Massillon, he discovered Massillon Tiger football. He was an avid Tiger fan, an east side season ticket holder through the 2015 season, and a member of the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club. He had an amazing memory of games going back to his younger years, and would often recount the highs and lows of those games during post-game gatherings at the Cameo Grill. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army 24th Signal Division. He achieved the rank of corporal and returned home via Japan in 1953. He worked as a draftsman at Babcock & Wilcox, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Faith Community Fellowship. He was preceded in death by seven sisters and one brother. Ron is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn (Adams) Saylor, his daughters, Kathy Doherty, Barbara (Kim) Watts and Teresa Scharon and his son, David (Cheryl) Saylor, a six grandchildren Dr. Shaun (Jeanna) Doherty, Jenn (Jeff) Waicak, Amber Scharon, Erin Doherty, Tim Saylor, and Bethany Saylor; and eight great grandchildren Cody DeVault, Felicia Doherty, Collin Doherty, Brennan Ledford, Kaleb Ledford, Arianna Hough, Cloey Nichols, Korbyn Scharon, and a sister Naomi Murphy. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public service. His remains will be interred at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
