Robert Thomas Hoffner, 81, of Massillon, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2023 following a short battle with leukemia. He was born on August 2, 1942 in Massillon, the son of the late Donald and Mary (Biggs) Hoffner. Robert attended Washington High School and was drafted in the U.S. Army in June of 1968. After the completion of basic training, he was sent to Vietnam from November 17, 1968 – August 16, 1969 assigned to 9th Infantry Division Vietnam.
Upon his return from Vietnam, he was employed by Massillon Steel Casting for many years and National Feed Screw until his retirement. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, and most of all cooking was his favorite thing to do. Robert was also a former Governor of the Massillon Moose Lodge. He was also active with the Perry Midget Football Program where his kids played. Robert also enjoyed traveling with his late wife of 37 years, MaryLou (Shank) Hoffner and his late brother, Jim and his wife Janice Hoffner.
He will be deeply missed by his stepsons, Erik (Cheryl) Myers of Tennessee and Michael (Kelly) Myers of Massillon; six very special grandchildren, Danielle Kendrick of Texas, Ashley (Cody) Csonka of Dalton, Justin Myers of Massillon, Logan (Stephanie) Myers of Mt. Eaton, Cole, and Carolyn Myers both serving in the U.S. Army; two very special great-grandchildren, Brantley, and Baylee Csonka of Dalton.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Robert Hoffner, and siblings, Rita McInnes, Donald “Bud” Hoffner, Jack Hoffner, and Jim Hoffner.
A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Saturday, November 18th, 2023 at 11 am.at Paquelet Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday, November 17th from 6-8 pm and on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. before the service.
