Robert N. Stenger

Robert N. Stenger age 90 of Massillon passed away Monday December 22, 2008 following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1918 in Massillon to the late Jacob & Helen (Berens) Stenger. Bob was a graduate of Washington High School. He entered the Army Air Corp and served in England. Following the service he was employed at the former Griscom-Russell Co. and retired in 1983 from St. Regis Paper Co. after 20 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; served as treasurer of the Holy Name Society for 30 years for which he was recognized. He sang in the choir, served as an ‘ancient acolyte’ and was a member of K of C #554. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen (Hoey) Stenger (1967); two brothers, Jacob & Gerald and a sister Helen Stenger. Bob is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Dillon) Stenger with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. He has five devoted children: Mary Anne (Michael) Betteker of Woodbridge, VA, Joni (Dave) Lorenzo, Kathy (John) Compan, Nancy Mendez and James (Karen) Stenger, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; Frs. Raymond Paul & Thomas Bishop will concelebrate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 6-8 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. The family would appreciate contributions to either St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Joseph Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
