Robert "Bob" Leo McMahon, 90, of, Massillon, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at the Inn at University Village in Massillon. Bob was born November 16, 1926 in Canton, Ohio to the late Raymond and Ruth (Warth) McMahon. In his earlier years, Bob attended St. Mary's Elementary School followed by St. John's High School where he graduated in 1944. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was discharged in November 1946. Bob then went on to graduate from the University of Dayton in June 1950. He married Norma Jean Ginther on June 6, 1953. Bob was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he served on the PTA Board Parish Council as President for two terms, was a member of the Nave Group where he was a lector for over twenty years and was also a member of the K of C Council #554. In addition, Bob did tutoring with the Literacy Program in Canton and Massillon for many years. He worked for Macomber Inc. from 1950-1964 then went to work for Republic Steel where he retired in 1989. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family and friends. Bob will be deeply missed by his wife; children, Kathleen (Mark) Okey of Rockbridge, Ohio, Kevin (Holly) McMahon of Akron, Ohio, Brian (Arlene) McMahon of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Brenda (Brent) Ashcraft of Springboro, Ohio and Michelle McMahon of Westerville, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Raymond J. McMahon. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Rosemary Shearer and grandson, Ross McMahon. Friends may call Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home, in Massillon. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 10 A.M. by Fr. Edward Gretchko, Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church and will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 127 Cherry Rd. NE, Massillon, Ohio 44646. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 206 Cherry Rd., NE, Massillon, Ohio, 44646, for the renovation and remodeling period. The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers and staff at the Inn at University Village, Mercy Hospice and Home Instead for their loving care.
