Robert R. Shope, 81, of Canton, passed away May 13, 2022, after an extended illness. He was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania on January 4, 1941, to the late Donald R. and Mary Jane (Rohrer) Shope. Bob graduated from Camp Hill High School and Lebanon Valley College both located in Pennsylvania. He continued his education by graduating from the Pennsylvania School of Banking at Bucknell University and The School of Retail Bank Management at the University of Virginia. He also proudly served his country in the PA National Guard as a staff sergeant for 6 years. Bob's knowledge in banking led Bob to 30+ year career in the industry which first began in Harrisburg, PA, where he also served on the Camp Hill Borough Council. After relocating to Poland, Ohio in 1986, Bob and his wife Sandra, settled in Canton where Bob finished his banking career and retired in 2001 as a senior vice president with J.P. Morgan Chase Bank. Bob also served as a council member for several Lutheran churches as well as the Glenmoor Homeowners board, the Urban Ark board and held the position of treasurer for the condo association. He was a previous member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, Pa and was a current member of St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran church. In his free time, Bob was an avid gardener, growing various vegetables and planting beautiful flowers. He also enjoyed keeping his yard neat and maintained. One of his greatest passions was cruising various parts of the world with his wife Sandy. They have taken over a dozen cruises to places like Alaska, Hawaii, the Baltic Sea, Australia, parts of South America and numerous times to the Caribbean. Bob was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sandy (Diener) Shope; his two sons, Kevin (Amy) Shope and Matthew (Vanae) Shope; grandchildren, Dylan, Anderson, Magnolia, and Charlie Shope and sister, Sally Bryan. Family and friends may call on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 9:00 am-10:30 am at St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church in Canton. A memorial celebration will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bruce Roth officiating and his urn will be placed in the columbarium niche within the church.
