Robert L. "Bob" Hookey, aged 85, long-time resident of Massillon, Ohio,
passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Country Club
Care Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was born on October 27,
1937, in McDonald, Pennsylvania, to the late Robert and Rose (Saver)
Hookey.
Robert graduated from Salem High School in Ohio in 1955, and later
pursued his higher education at Youngstown University, where he
earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He worked as
an auditor for the state of Ohio and a real estate appraiser for Citizens
Savings Bank in Canton, OH.
Bob dutifully served his country by joining the US Army Reserve in
1960. For 50 years, he devoted himself to Sebring Masonic Lodge 626
and served as the former Commander of Sons of the American Legion
post #221 in Massillon, Ohio. His commitment extended to various
organizations in the Massillon area, including McKinley Eagles 2370,
Amvets post 12, and Sons of Herman.
On February 22, 1964, Bob married his beloved Sarah Jane Walker in
Sebring, Ohio, and together they shared many cherished moments. He
found solace and inspiration in his faith, attending Reedurban
Presbyterian Church in Canton, Ohio, where he served as Sunday
School Director for many years. Bob enjoyed working in his garden,
fishing, spending time with family and friends and traveling.
He leaves behind a loving legacy and will be deeply missed by his
children, Kyle (Tammy) Hookey of Warrensburg, Missouri, Kevin (Toby)
Hookey of Ontario, Ohio, Krista (Christian) Bean of Westford,
Massachusetts, and Kara Hookey of Newark, New Jersey. Bob's
presence will continue to shine through his grandchildren, Kyle Robert
(Bethany) Hookey II, Seth Hookey, Talos Hookey, Ariel Hookey,
Alessandra Bean, Jordan Reed, and Jaret Pollock. He was also blessed
with two great-grandchildren, Killian Michael Hookey and Abigail Lilian
Rose Hookey. Bob is survived by his brother, Gerald (Douang Chanh)
Hookey.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Jane Hookey, his
longtime partner, Joann McCall, his sister, Judy Hartzell, and his
parents.
The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 10-11 am. Funeral service will follow at 11 am. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Sebring, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to
